Litratong Pinoy#81 Magugustuhan (To Like)

>> 1/21/2010

I was not sure if my mother would like the Bigby's, a well-known restaurant here in our city. So, I took her there and we ordered Fisherman's Catch. The Fisherman's Catch has two different dips (vinegar and cream), grilled shrimps, breaded squids, deep-fried fish, fried rice, corn and a bit of veggies.

My mother liked the food. Her only complaint was that the Fisherman's Catch was too expensive for P500 plus price. It didn't matter much for me because we ate delicious food.

Pilipino:

PhotoHunt#73 Jiggly

>> 1/16/2010

It's jiggly, it's creamy and it's sinfully yummy. It's the blueberry cheesecake I did the other year. I wanted to do it at New Year last year but cream cheese ran out of stock. Too bad. Anyway, I'm planning to do the blueberry cheesecake this coming Chinese New Year next month. Hopefully, the cream cheese won't ran out of stock.

Here's the recipe I used that was given to me by my friend:

Crust:
1/4 cups crushed Graham crackers
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar (optional)

Cream:
1 box cream cheese (beat)
1 pack whipping cream (beat)
1 can 170-gram Nestle cream (beat)
1 can (big) condensed milk
2 packs Knox gelatin and 1/4 cup water - dissolve and simmer. Fold to cream misture and chill

Top with the blueberries (I use Comstock brand) and chill

Photo Hunt#71 Lick

I don't eat cake as much as other people. When I do, I prefer the icing more. I have this habit of touching the icing on the cake siding and licking them off my finger when nobody's looking:)

This cake's name is Rainbow cake and it was bought from Bistro Rosario Bakeshoppe at Torres Ave., Davao City, one of the more well-known bakeries in the city. Their cakes are really quite good and this one has about 3 to 4 layers of batter with different colors underneath the icing. Thus, it's name and it's a favorite of mine.

Twelve chocolate candies with different things inside. There're almond nuts, caramel, butter creme, pecan and a whole more. I always tried to eat them slow, to savor them but sometimes I can't help myself because they're yummy.

Litratong Pinoy#64 Merienda (Snack)

>> 8/20/2009

I have observed that there are more coffee bar/cafes sprouting everywhere I go. They have their own specialties and gimmicks to attract customers; most of them have free wifi connection, which is why these places are favorite hangouts of the young ones nowadays. Here in our city, I feel dizzy with the menagerie of snack choices from these coffee bar/cafes. See, take your pic...

Pilipino:

This is what we ordered from Fagioli Coffee Club, cheesecake and a cool drink. Delicious!

Pilipino:
Eto iyong inorder namin sa Fagioli Coffee Club, cheesecake at malamig na panghimagas...Masarap!

Creamy strawberry cheesecake partnered with Cafe Mocha. I forgot the other cake's name but it was really delicious too. We had them in Starbucks Shanghai after we got so tired walking on a cold, drizzly day in Shanghai last year.

Litratong Pinoy#37 Tsokolate(Chocolate)

>> 2/05/2009

Translation:
Each time I see a box of chocolate like this, I remember what Forrest Gump said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

Quite right, that is why I learned to laugh, to work more and to be positive in life.

You might think that this was given to me for the day of the hearts, you are wrong. This was given to me by somebody who is close to my heart who never fails to supply me with chocolates even if it is not Valentine’s day.

PhotoHunt#10 Breakfast

>> 12/07/2008

This is the breakfast we ordered at Zola resto-cafe, Baguio City after coming from an all-night travel from Manila to Baguio. The food was good and the restaurant is open 24-hours. My fave is the one on the left corner, the mushroom omelette with java rice which was recommended by the waiter who served us. He said that it is a Baguio-based breakfast and the restaurant's specialty.

The plate on the upper left is the typical American breakfast composed of bacon, hotdog, sunny-side up egg and java rice while the plate on the right is a Filipino breakfast of friend bangus (milkfish), tosino (cured meat), sunny-side up egg and java rice. All breakfasts go with unlimited brewed Benguet coffee.

Litratong Pinoy#26 Kinagisnan

>> 11/13/2008

lechon, kinilaw at dinuguan
spaghetti, buko salad, beef steak, patatim
kainan na!!!

Translation: I grew up seeing Christmas decorations everywhere starting on the month of October, very early by foreign standards but just at the right time for Filipinos. I also grew up on the Filipino culture of celebrating Christmas by having a lot of Christmas parties with lots of food. It is no wonder that during Christmas season, our Deparment of Health would always issue the health advisory regarding excessive eating/partying as this is usually the time that there is an increase number of people getting hospitalized due to hypertension and/or increase sugar intake.

That is why when one of my friends who lives abroad invited me to spend Christmas with her, I thought, I could not do it. Christmas is lonely away from the Philippines. They would just sleep during Noche Buena time while we party with our friends and loved ones to our hearts’ delight and fill our stomachs up to our skin’s maximum stretching point.

Morning Banana Diet Frenzy in Japan

>> 10/17/2008

This is good news to our banana growers in Davao City and neighboring areas. Japan, whose 90% of banana source came from the Philippines, is going crazy with the Morning Banana Diet and is now gobbling tons of bananas faster than they can be replaced in the store stands.

The diet? Eating only bananas (as many as you want) and room-temperature water for breakfast to jumpstart weight loss. Eat anything for lunch and dinner until 8 pm. No deserts and bed before midnight.

According to research studies, eating breakfast will help in the pursuit of weight loss. But not only that, regulating and balancing one’s food intake is important, eating more fruits and vegetables and backed by regular exercise, weight loss is attainable.

So, am not impressed with the Morning Banana Diet. It’s just a fad. What about you?

Eating Healthy Food

>> 8/30/2008

Do you try to eat healthy food? I try to especially now that I am getting older and the cells are known for getting slower in regenerating. However, there are times that I digress or just get plain lazy and then, I try to make up after. I do wish that I have the real discipline to maintain it however expensive a lot of healthy foods can be compared to than junk foods (although that is not a good enough reason to be not eating healthy. Anyway, here’s Dneero conversation about eating healthy food that you might like to try.
