La.Pi.S#5 Crunchy

>> 8/12/2008

Crunchy Chicharon (deep fried porkskin) is a very popular Pinoy snack food and almost always, part of the drinking sessions of the guys. It is actually one of my comfort foods. There was even a time that I had this bad habit every Sunday; I would watch Sunday afternoon TV shows alone with a bag of chicharon, vinegar with sliced garlic dip and ice cold coke. Ugh! A recipe for a heart attack! It was a good thing that I stopped doing it when I started showing the “fruits” of my Sunday afternoon dates on my waistline.

Here's another crunchy post..

La.Pi.S.#4 Soup (Sabaw)

Have you heard of shabu-shabu? The best shabu-shabu I have tasted so far was in a China restaurant while we were on a trip some years ago.

Shabu-shabu is a Japanese variant of hot pot soup or broth. The dish is prepared by submerging a very thin slice of meat of piece of vegetable in a pot boiling water or both and swishing it back and forth several times. The familiar swishing sounds is where the dish gets its name. Shabu-shabu roughly translates to “swish-swish”. Thank you, Wikipedia.

Anyway, here’re the ingredients…

And the finish product…
Here’s another heartwarming soup entry..

La.Pi.S# 3 Soft (Malambot)

>> 7/20/2008

This week’s theme is soft (malambot). I have been frequenting Chowking for their halo-halo nowadays, courtesy of free halo-halo from my credit card hehehehe! I just love Chowking's soft and hot siopao (although it is getting to be more expensive than the ones I find in other restaurants). There is my siopao waiting hot and soft while my halo-halo is ready to get devoured.

Oh, check out by other entry.

La.Pis.S#2 Sour (Maasim)

Green mango. Sour, crunchy, juicy and delicious especially if it goes with a sautéed fish paste dip. If there is none, I make do with soy sauce mixed in with a bit sugar. Always guaranteed to make me drool anytime.

Green mangoes with sautéed fish paste always remind me of my high school days when ambulant vendors wait outside our school gates. Young green mangoes were then sliced thinly and sold in small portions wrapped in plastic. Walking on our way home from school, we always had them in our hands; talking and joking while crunching away on our mangoes. They can be a bit stinky but it was really good.

Here's another good-tasting, soury entry.

La.Pi.S#1 Grilled (Inihaw)

>> 7/03/2008

My favorite food is anything grilled. Grilled chicken, fish, pork and including vegetables like water cabbage and cucumber. When I was a kid, I also tasted grilled dragonflies. My playmate told me before that dragonflies can be grilled and be eaten. So, we went running after dragonflies for a whole afternoon and had grilled dragonfly snack.

This chicken barbecue picture was taken while I was salivating with much hunger. See! I already tore a flesh before taking a picture. This was taken at Mang Inasal – SM Davao. The place is always full and is well-known for their bottomless rice. (Do you think bottomless rice contributed to the country’s rice crisis?) And of course, BBQ eating is not complete without just using one’s hands. Kainan na!!!!

Here’s my other entry that can drool on for La.Pi.S this week.
